Motion Capture from Video

No rotoscoping. No mocap studio. Upload footage, retarget to your own 3D model, and export FBX.

Any Video Format

Upload MP4, MOV, AVI, WebM, or MKV files. Our AI handles the rest — no format conversion needed.

AI Pose Estimation

Advanced machine learning extracts precise skeletal motion — full body, hands, fingers, and feet.

Game-Ready FBX Output

Export in FBX 7.4 binary format. Drag and drop directly into Unity, Unreal Engine, Blender, or Maya.

No Technical Skill Required

Upload a video, get an animation. No calibration, no manual cleanup, no complex pipeline.

How It Works

“The feet are planted way more firmly. There is less jittering and cleanup necessary.”

I'm really impressed with just the raw capture... it's staying really stable as I move around the volume.

Frequently Asked Questions

We support all common video formats:

  • MP4 (H.264, H.265/HEVC) — Most common, recommended
  • MOV — Apple QuickTime format
  • AVI — Windows video format
  • WebM — Web-optimized format
  • MKV — Matroska container

Maximum file size: 2GB. For larger files, consider trimming to the relevant portion or compressing with HandBrake.

Higher quality video produces better animation results:

  • Resolution: 1080p or higher recommended. 720p works but with reduced accuracy.
  • Frame rate: 30fps ideal for most use cases. 60fps supported for very fast action sequences.
  • Lighting: Good, even lighting with the subject clearly visible.
  • Background: Contrasting background helps, but not required.
  • Clothing: Fitted clothing works better than loose, flowing garments.

Yes — up to 3 performers per take. Everyone is solved from the same footage, so actors can play a scene together instead of being captured separately and assembled later. We recommend at least 6 cameras for multi-performer takes: more bodies on stage means more occlusion to cover.

Processing time depends on video length and the number of camera angles:

  • Short animation (under 1 minute): ~5 minutes
  • 15-minute clip with 5 cameras: up to 1 hour

More camera angles improve accuracy but increase processing time proportionally.

We export two FBX files for maximum compatibility: one with a Unity skeleton and one with an Unreal skeleton (including IK targets). Both use the industry-standard FBX 7.4 binary format, compatible with Blender, Maya, MotionBuilder, Cascadeur, 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, Houdini, and more. You can also upload your own character — any rig, stylized included — and mimem retargets the take onto it with IK retargeting for precise feet and hand placement.

Very accurate — and the number of camera angles is the biggest factor:

  • 3 cameras: Great results for most use cases
  • 5 cameras: Optimal accuracy, even for fast or complex movements

More cameras reduce occlusion issues and improve tracking of fast movements like martial arts, dance, and sports.

Yes! All animations you create with mimem.ai are yours to use commercially. There are no royalties or attribution requirements. This applies to all plans including the free tier. You own the output.

Yes, you can upload multiple videos and they'll be queued for processing. Pro plan users can process up to 5 videos simultaneously. All processed animations are organized in your project dashboard for easy management and download.
